With New Zealand still facing labour shortages, supply chain delays, ever-changing seasonal demands, and the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle, there continues to be a need for effective and efficient spray applications.
Aware of the challenges facing New Zealand’s rural contracting industry
Mark Harris, BA Pumps & Sprayers General Manager, says: “Our primary industries face challenges at the best of times. Throw in the disruption over the past couple of years, and the need for world-class technologies that deliver in a New Zealand setting is paramount.
Having now been in the front seat of BA for over 12 months Mark reflects on his time so far: “During my first year at BA I’ve seen first-hand how this New Zealand-owned and operated company has a highly innovative and adaptable mindset, enabling us to offer rural contractors and large scale farmers high-quality products that make time, chemical and diesel savings possible in a reliable and customisable package.”
“For contractors and large farmers we have developed the BA LS and LK Series linkage sprayers,” continues Mark. “Built to deliver accurate chemical application, higher operating efficiencies, and operator safety the LS and LK are available in a range of tank sizes from 1,000 to 1,900L. If these options don’t provide the coverage between fills you are looking for add a 1,100 or 1,500L Front Mount Tank enabling the operator to make serious productivity gains!”
From the field
Ohakune sprout and parsnip producer, Bruce Rollinson, is one of many customers benefiting from such savings and more thanks to his BA LS1300 linkage sprayer.
The LS and LK are available with a 10m or 12m semi-hydraulic folding K Series booms with wing lift, or a 12m, 15m or 18m Super X-2 hydraulic fold boom with wing tip lift.
“BA’s galvanised boom means I don’t have any trouble with corrosion,” explains Bruce. “The sprayer I used before had painted booms, which is what prompted me to look elsewhere.”
Providing a resolution to the corrosion problem proved to be just one of the benefits a BA sprayer has given Bruce. The New Zealand steel sizing, width of the boom, and tank capacity have also contributed to reducing Bruce’s spraying time saving labour, diesel, and tractor hours.
BA’s machinery and products are designed for New Zealand’s unique conditions – something that was important to Bruce. He’d considered sprayers by other manufacturers in the past but ultimately trusted BA’s local knowledge and design. “BA is making sprayers for a New Zealand farming environment and different New Zealand terrain. They don’t just make a one-size-fits-all machine,” he says.
With paddocks up to five hectares, the ability to spray these areas with one tank fill in a short time was important for Bruce. BA enabled Bruce to achieve that with the 15m full hydraulic fold boom including boom suspension attached to his LS 1300.
The LS 1300 Litre 3 Point Linkage Sprayer features a world-class Bertolini 160 lpm POLY pump (PTO Drive), a Super-X2 15m boom fitted with full-length wing lift kit, integrated 1200mm Lift & Dual Airbag boom suspension, along with a TeeJet Radion 9 Section AutoRate controller coupled with TeeJet Matrix GPS for Auto Boom Section Control.
Bruce’s experience with BA’s equipment means there’s no question which is his preferred supplier of spray technology. “They say to stick to what you know, and I know that with BA I get a good product and good service,” says Bruce. “They offer good service, good backup, and good technical advice… and they’re New Zealand-made.”
